Entrepreneurs are passionate individuals that create their own path. While this can be a highly rewarding journey, research proves that entrepreneurs are more likely than many other professions to struggle with their mental health.
Studies by the Canadian Mental Health Association tell us that 62% of entrepreneurs feel depressed at least once a week, female entrepreneurs are more likely to report mental health issues, and 46% of entrepreneurs state that mental health issues interfere with their work.
At Startup Zone, we don’t want these stats to define our community of entrepreneurs. Come join us for this night of learning to hear from local professionals in this field, and learn how to reach out for help if you need it!
In this panel at Startup Zone we will hear from a variety of different voices with a background in mental health advocacy in the Charlottetown community:
- Kali Ross is a UPEI student, and a representative of the national nonprofit “Jack.org” in PEI. Jack.org is Canada’s only charity training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health in every province and territory through globally recognized programs. As a Jack Talks speaker and a Network Representative, Kali uses her voice to advocate for better mental health supports for youth in her community to spark change across the country.
- Lacey Koughan is the founder of 24Strong. As someone who has struggled with mental illness in the past, Lacey has used her past experiences to become a passionate advocate for mental health, founding her company that runs empowerment programs for self-identified girls focused on confidence building and goal-setting.
- Bianca McGregor is the Manager of Fund Development, Marketing, and Promotions at CMHA PEI Division, a non-profit mental health agency that promotes the mental health of all Islanders by promoting services, programs, education, and various other supports. She is also a co-founder of McGregor and Currie, a jewelry company that donates a portion of their proceeds to programs that work to end violence against women.
- Jill Stewart, as a registered Clinical Social Worker and Therapist, founded her company “Your Life Design” to help improve mental wellness across Islanders. Offering in-person and online counselling covered by most health insurance plans, Jill is revolutionizing the mental health landscape on PEI, and making professional help more accessible than ever.
