Charlottetown, PE – The Startup Zone is pleased to announce Sheryl MacAulay as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
As a proud Islander, MacAulay is passionate about P.E.I. and the success of its local business community. She comes to the CEO role from the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Director of Policy and Communications. MacAulay’s love of working with others drives her “people-first” approach to leadership. She holds a Masters of Education in Leadership from Acadia University and a Political Science and Psychology Degree from St.FX University. MacAulay enjoys being active in the community and is the proud mother of four-month-old twins, Mila and Arthur. She is excited to support the Startup Zone’s success as the new CEO.
“If this past year has taught us anything, it’s that no idea is off limits,” said MacAulay. “The Startup Zone is the perfect space to build on the innovative spirit that emerged throughout the pandemic. It’s an important time for the organization and I look forward to being part of its future success.”
The Startup Zone also welcomes Mikey Wasnidge as the new Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR). In this role, Wasnidge, who is the current co-owner of Nimrods’, will draw on more than a decade of working with startups to help support the growth of resident companies. Throughout his career, he has helped grow Upstreet Craft Brewing, GetGifted, and several online retail brands before launching Nimrods’ with his co-founders; a company that has experienced extraordinary growth in a short time, despite the challenges recently faced by the restaurant industry. He hopes his creativity and drive will help to inspire and guide new entrepreneurs.
The Startup Zone Board of Directors shared its enthusiasm for the future of the Startup Zone and its new team members.
“We are very happy to have Sheryl bring her professional, can-do attitude to the CEO role and for Mikey to share his experience and energy with our resident companies,” said Board of Directors Chair, Ron Myers. “It is an exciting time for the Startup Zone.”
MacAulay will assume the CEO position full-time on November 8, 2021, following her maternity leave. The Board of Directors will oversee daily operations until her arrival. Wasnidge will begin his role as EIR immediately.
