Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage external marketing/communications plan(s), content, materials and campaigns.
  • Manage digital platforms including, but not limited to social media channels, e-newsletter, and website. 

  • Write and/or edit copy including but not limited to press releases, marketing materials, news articles, social media content, and internal communications documents. 

  • Develop and report on communications/marketing engagement metrics. 

  • Research and share information relevant to the startup community. 

  • Manage/coordinate media relations and press conferences.

  • Develop and manage Startup Zone brand guide. 

 

Event Management
  • Lead the planning and execution of Startup Zone events both online and in-person. 

  • Lead the promotion of Startup Zone events.

  • Develop all event materials including but not limited to online registration pages, invitations, and final reporting/success metrics.

  • Support the set-up/tear-down of community events hosted in the space, as deemed appropriate. 

  • Working with team members, develop and manage the annual SUZ event plan that services the needs of resident companies and the greater startup community. 

Relevant Experience & Qualifications
  • A strong understanding of PEI’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. 

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. 

  • Strong attention to detail. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.

  • A positive, team player who demonstrates a willingness to problem solve and independently seek out solutions to challenges. 

  • Demonstrated experience in a wide range of digital platforms including but not limited to G Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, Canva, Zoom, and all major social media platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience working with local and regional media.

  • Demonstrated understanding of all public health guidelines related to the planning and execution of events in Prince Edward Island. 

  • Preference will be given to applicants with a degree or diploma in Communications & Marketing, Event Management, Journalism, Public Relations, or relevant field.

Position Details
  • Reporting to: CEO
  • Start Date: November 15, 2021
  • Term: Full-time position, ending March 31, 2022, with possibility of extension. Regular work-week hours with some evening and weekend hours required. 

The Communications & Events Manager will be required to adhere to the confidentiality and standards set out by the Startup Zone Employee Handbook.
